Were You Injured By A Careless Or Overly Aggressive Trucker?

Most fully loaded tractor-trailers and other commercial trucks weigh more than 80,000 pounds, while the average passenger car weighs only 3,000 pounds. This means that large trucks take much longer to come to a stop than do cars. It also means that if a truck driver is following too closely, the momentum of his or her truck can easily crush the smaller vehicle in front.

At the Law Office of Ira Pintel, we represent injured individuals and the families of wrongful death victims who were involved in truck-car collisions. If you or a loved one was harmed by an overly aggressive driver, our Bronx lawyer who handles tailgating truck accidents is here to vigorously pursue the justice you deserve. With nearly three decades of experience, he knows how to fight for maximum financial compensation for your injuries and other damages.

Greater Speed Dramatically Increases A Truck’s Stopping Distance

The National Safety Council’s Professional Truck Driver Defensive Driving Course states that a tractor-trailer traveling at 30 mph needs 100 feet to come to a stop in ideal road conditions. What is surprising, however, is that doubling the speed to 60 mph does not double the stopping distance to 200 feet. It increases it to 426 feet. Adding just 5 mph more increases the distance again to a startling 525 feet.

Truck drivers who tailgate other vehicles may not realize just how dangerous such an action is. If they misjudge the stopping distance, they can easily rear-end the cars in front of them. In addition, having an overloaded truck increases the stopping distance even farther, leading to an even greater potential for injuries or fatalities, especially if the truck jackknifes.
